This is a supernatural horror film that follows the story of Tabara, a second generation immigrant from Senegal, who lives in America. She suffers from nightmares that she has everynight, where a monstrous creature, mutilated above recognition, mocks her.

After one too many nightmare, unsuccessful therapy and advices from her grandmother ; Tabara decides to travel to Senegal to seek treatment in an unorthodox place, an African Marabout. In Muslim Africa, a marabout is a holy man who is believed to have supernatural healing powers.

When Tabara meets the marabout, he gives her a potion that is meant to allow her to exit her dreams, to no avail. Returning to the marabout in desperation, Tabara is confronted with a revelation: a hidden, generational curse plagues her lineage.
With this knowledge, that night, she bravely explores the dream world to defeat the monster.

DISCOVER THE PROPHECY
DISCOVER THE INTENTION
In analytical psychology, Carl Jung defines the shadow
as an archetype that represents the “darker side” of the human psyche.

Everything in Tabara’s dreams are different parts of her in the subconscious.
In order to heal her trauma, she needs to bravely explore the dream world
and give love to the thing she’s the most afraid of: her shadow.
I make a link between the Jungian shadow and the African 'rapp' (inner demon).
Both are explanation for a lack of emotional stability and mental illness, however,
one is based on science and the other on spirituality.
This film is about Tabara embracing parts of herself she has been rejecting -
She has been identifying to the western culture more than the culture of her African ancestors,
and following the sexual assault, she has been identifying to the hurt more than the strength.
By accepting all parts of her, she becomes whole.
By embracing both medicines, she heals.
This film is also a denunciation of the stigma that still surrounds sexual assault
in religious communities.
